ENID, OK - On Friday, March 31, Creative Arts Enid will hold its monthly Lunch and Learn, a free event where the community is invited to the studio to learn about local artists. Lunch and Learn will be held the last Friday of every month, noon to 1 p.m., at the studio, and will include a brief lecture about the artist’s inspirations and techniques followed by a time for questions.
-
Friday’s feature artist will be Catherine Freshley, a landscape artist originally from Oregon.
-
"I am not a native Oklahoman and am only living here temporarily, and, to me, my paintings feel like a love letter to the state and my time here,” Freshley said. “I am awe-struck by the beauty of our everyday scenes – back roads and fields and the expansive skies above them – and I feel compelled to capture and preserve these fleeting moments: the swiftly changing colors and shapes of a sunrise or the way a field looks as evening light recedes across it."
-
Freshley has a degree in economics and English from Tulane University, worked for a New Orleans-based ad agency for seven years and now spends most of her time as an artist and some of her time consulting in brand and digital advertising strategy. She will be exhibiting at the Oklahoma City Festival of the Arts from April 2
-
“The city of Enid and Oklahomans more widely have been so excited about my art and so encouraging of me as a young artist. I’m really looking forward to talking about my work in this intimate setting and getting to interact with some of the people that have been rooting for me,” Freshley said.
-
There is no cost to attend Lunch and Learn. Guests are welcome to bring their own lunch or can order from the food truck onsite. This month’s food truck will be Johan’s BBQ serving reuben sandwich.
-
April’s Lunch and Learn guest will be Harold “H” Holden on Friday, April 28.
