David Vanhooser, M.D. Relocating To OKC

ENID, OK - David Vanhooser, M.D., FACS, will widen his scope of services this spring. Dr. Vanhooser, who has lived in Enid since 2001 and started the open-heart surgery program at INTEGRIS Bass Baptist Health Center the same year, will be joining the team of INTEGRIS Cardiovascular Physicians in Oklahoma City in April. This will allow Dr. Vanhooser to maintain his current clinic location in Enid while offering more types of surgeries to his patients.

“The decision to relocate to Oklahoma City was difficult. I have lived in Enid for more than 16 years and I consider it my home,” said Dr. Vanhooser. “I will be leaving my home this summer, but I will continue to serve as Enid’s cardiovascular surgeon and will continue to see patients here.”
Dr. Vanhooser will continue to serve the patients from northwest Oklahoma through the clinic in his current location. By maintaining his clinic at the INTEGRIS Heart and Vascular Institute of Northwest Oklahoma he will be able to see his current patients for follow-up, as well as see new patients from across the region. The services Dr. Vanhooser will offer at his Enid clinic location will not change; however, he will begin performing his surgeries at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center. Because of increased access to more types of specialists, this will allow him to offer more types of advanced surgeries to his patients and return to doing what he loves.

“I’ve been involved with INTEGRIS since 1985 when I was able to assist Dr. Nazi Zuhdi with Oklahoma’s first heart transplant.” said Dr. Vanhooser.  “Oklahoma City, right now, has an urgent demand for more experienced transplant surgeons and transplant was my first love; so I’m returning back to where it all started for me.”

The INTEGRIS Heart and Vascular Institute of Northwest Oklahoma has partnered with the INTEGRIS Heart Hospital in many capacities since it was opened in 2010. Along with Dr. Vanhooser’s clinic, the Institute will continue to offer subspecialty clinics from Sean Halleran, M.D., Cardiac Electrophysiology and Douglas Horstmanshof, M.D., program director of the INTEGRIS Heart Failure Institute.

The INTEGRIS Heart and Vascular Institute of Northwest Oklahoma will continue to offer full cardiology services to the region through providers John Schrader, M.D., Doug Brown, M.D., Gregory Schuchard, M.D., Chander Malhotra, M.D. and Matthew Thoms, PA-C.
INTEGRIS, the largest Oklahoma-owned not-for-profit health system in the state, is known for innovation and unparalleled quality offering advanced treatment options and specialties found nowhere else in the region. This provides INTEGRIS with a unique opportunity to share resources which enables us to provide more patients with access to the most advanced care and experienced surgeons in Oklahoma. The collaboration between INTEGRIS Heart and Vascular Institute of Northwest Oklahoma, Dr. Vanhooser and the INTEGRIS Heart Hospital at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center opens up an access point for residents of northwest Oklahoma to obtain the most advanced cardiac care, a rare opportunity for rural Oklahomans.

INTEGRIS Bass Baptist Health Center isn’t new to these types of collaborations. Recently, the hospital opened the INTEGRIS Cancer Institute Enid in partnership with the INTEGRIS Cancer Institute. This collaboration gives cancer patients in northwest Oklahoma access to a full-time medical oncologist who is part of the most premier cancer treatment centers in Oklahoma and the only full-time oncologist in Enid.

“It’s because we are part of a health care system like INTEGRIS that we are able to offer these more advanced services, that no one else in Enid can offer,” said Edward Herrman, President, INTEGRIS Bass Baptist Health Center. “We will continue to look for collaborations like this in an effort to provide the most advanced care and the best access to the communities that we serve.”
-
“Dr. Vanhooser has been a pillar of INTEGRIS Bass Baptist Health Center since his arrival in 2001; he has served the community of Enid well and provided hundreds of patients with a new outlook on life,” said Herrman. “We are sad to see him move away from Enid, but are happy to know he will still be seeing patients, right here, in the same community he calls home.”

Dr. Vanhooser’s Enid clinic location is located inside the INTEGRIS Heart and Vascular Institute at 707 S. Monroe.
