Richard Arlen “Whitey” White, died peacefully in the evening hours on February 6, 2017 at the age of 86.
Arlen was born in Ponca City to parents Charles and Francis White on September 1, 1930. He was the oldest of 4 children, a role he carried out with duty and honor.
He met the love of his life, Velma Lee (Showalter) in Garber and they married April 20, 1950. He was a devoted and loving husband of 67 years. He is survived by his wife, Velma Lee White, sister, JoAnn Cogdon of Texas, daughter Toni Dallas and husband Rick of Enid, several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He owned and operated his own paint contracting business in Enid for many years. He developed wonderful working relationships with many other business owners and customers. He was a hard working and dependable man. He was innovative and artistic. He could match and mix colors brilliantly. He could hand texture beautiful old world textures and could touch up woodwork and match stains. He employed many family members, friends, and those in need of a job. He believed everyone deserved a chance and with hard work comes success and personal achievement. He enjoyed coaching little league football and watching his son, Rick White, play ball. His daughter, Toni White, was his angel and rock. She is who he depended on. He loved Sooner football and never tried to miss an Enid Plainsman Football home game.
He was proceded in death by his parents, Charles and Francis White, brothers Lew and Jerry White, son, Rick White and grandsons Adrian and Tristen White.
He will be greatly missed.
Services will be on Friday, February 10 at 10:30 AM at Central Christian Church, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home & Crematory. Memorials can be made to Enid Plainsman Football.
