ENID, Okla. - Oakwood Mall has been sold! A retail group out of Austin, Texas purchased the mall on Friday, December 16. New Oakwood Mall Manager, Mark McAfee, is in Enid working out the details. McAfee is the brother-in-law of Todd Routh, founding partner of Commercial Retail Group.
-
Commercial Retail Group is a family owned company that currently owns 90-100 pieces of large commercial property. The company plans on revitalizing the mall by filling it with retail stores like it had when it first opened.
-
McAfee admitted it was going to take some time and hard work but asked the public to look at their record on revitalizing malls. McAfee said, "We will work close with the community," and he talked about having more local events and fundraisers. He described Oakwood Mall as a good mall and understood the skepticism of the public due to previous promises.
-
McAfee will be a hands on manager and has already walked the mall and spoken with many of the current tenants. He said they currently have a good crew and really like the Enid area. McAfee was raised in Oklahoma and owns land in the southern part of the state.

Oakwood Mall is an enclosed regional mall built in 1984. Enid is the main shopping destination in northwest Oklahoma. Within a 50 mile radius of the mall there are over 178,000 people. There are over 53,000 people living within a 5 mile radius.
-
Oakwood is currently anchored by Dillard's on the west end, JC Penny on the east end and AMC Theaters next to the Food Court. Chen Garden is located on the north side with an external entrance.
-
A few of the other current stores inside include Claire's, Bath & Body Works, GNC, Candyopolis, RUTH'S Christian Bookstore, Vanity as well as others. There are also services for hair, nails, martial arts, wireless phone and an art gallery.
-
Surrounding Oakwood Mall and within walking distance are Chick-fil-A, McDonalds, iHOP and Walgreens. There are over five hotels in walking distance to the mall.
-
For the past several years developers have attempted to de-mall Oakwood by keeping the anchor stores in place but gutting the insides and making those areas more of an open-air shopping experience. J. Herzog & Sons Inc. was the previous managing company of the mall.
-
Oakwood Mall was full of stores when it first opened in 1984. Many of those long gone include Service Merchandise, Newman's, Waldenbooks, B Datlon Book Seller, The Gap, Seiferts, Hastings, Coach House Gifts, World Bazaar Gift Shop, Athlete's Foot, Eckerd Drug, Orange Julius, Cheese Shoppe, Taco Tico and many others.

Please make our mall into a 3 story with lots of stores and restaurants inside this means a great deal to a lot of teenagers because we have nothing to do here. We want our mall to be like okc malls.
We need a really good steak house. Texas road house, outback, longhorn. Something like that. I saw the doggy bath closed. They opened at wrong time. Needed to be open during winter when people couldn’t wash pets OUTSIDE. Would love to see a Popeyes or bojangles. A really good bakery that has something besides donuts. A good east coast subshop with a grill for making steak subs. A good seafood house. Just some of the things I miss
I agree!!!
This is brat news for Enid! So thrilled we have new businesses – hopefully that will fill the store areas!!!
I hope a fabric store can be attracted to the mall again! A JoAnns Fabrics would be awesome!
This is good to hear. The city council wanted to tear it down at one time which to many people seemed a bit illogical. If it had been full of stores Saturday the 17th it would have been a good place to shop while the wind chill was below zero.
It would be nice when we come to visit family in Enid that there is a good place to shop. Or at least to enjoy to shop like the malls in Tulsa.
Glad to hear someone that has experience has bought the mall. Ready for something new in Enid.
I think it looks like a whole in the wall. There only a few stores in it now cause of the rent there. We need a stage, disk jocky, gadzooks, Spencer’s, steven and berrys, hot topic, Couch house gifts, Corral West, All kinds of diff foods. Enid doesnt have much to shop but have alot of hotels, and people. I hope they can turn it around and get stores in enid.
Really love reading these 2 year old comments and nothing but losing 6+ stores has happened to the mall…
I have always loved this Mall so much more than the really big ones. It has a family feel to it. I pray you can bring new businesses into it so it can be what it used to be. Let’s make Oakwood Mall great again.
How about a Dress Barn? I was told by a Dress Barn employee that they wanted to come to Enid but were told that Enid did not need another dress shop???? They said they were still trying, so maybe.
I am so glad to hear this. It has been a long time coming. I hope they will bring back Pier 1 Imports.
Need to turn it into an outlet mall
Really miss Corral West!!! Such a great place to shop, I bought things in there all the time.

I think we need Texas road houense ,olive garden,Eskimo Joe’s year around spensers build a bear for the kiddos eckard drug big alots jewelry stores more eating places lids shoe stores indoor glow in the dark putt putt we need more stores like the okc malls and wichita mall
Would love to see a good book store there again
Why hasn’t anyone mentioned anything about having a movie theater upgrade? The current one is an embarrassment – a hodge-podge of cut-up space with uncomfortable seating. Although ticket prices are less, I honestly feel like I’ve been taken every time I buy one. This has been an on-going issue for more years than I can remember. I can not except the fact that Enid deserves better and, if it does not, would someone of integrity explain why?
I need to correct my last sentence. I meant to say: “I can not except the fact that Enid does not deserve better…..?” .
I totally agree. The theater is an entity on its own and the mall doesn’t really control them. I believe there is a lease in place that has to expire before anything new can be done. I am going to try to find out more about the movie situation.
