Richard Lee Riekenberg

richard-riekenberg-1479740618The service celebrating the life of Richard Riekenberg will be at 10:00 AM Friday, November 25, 2016, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, with Pastor Kenneth Wade officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors by the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday evening from 7:30 to 8:30 at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home.

On January 19, 1935, a feisty baby boy was born on the family farm south of Fairmont to Martin and Ella Loesch Riekenberg. Richard was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Fairmont. He attended Bank and Pioneer Elementary Schools, and graduated from Douglas High School in 1952. While in high school Richard enjoyed playing sports and 4-H.

Richard married Walterean Diveley on January 1, 1954, and celebrated 62 years of marriage. Two sons and one daughter were born to this union. Richard was drafted and spent two years in the U.S. Army at Fort Sill in Lawton. He specialized in communications and received an honorable discharge. In 1958, the family moved to Kansas where Richard worked at Boeing in Wichita, and owned and operated Steamatic Carpet Cleaning in Hutchinson. The family moved to Enid in 1971, where Richard worked at Vance Air Force Base as a carpenter, Champlin Refinery, and Hackney Iron & Steel, until his retirement in 1998. Richard enjoyed gardening, woodworking, fishing, and family gatherings.

Survivors are his wife Walterean of the home, daughter Brenda Woodford and husband Steve, son Terry, daughter-in-law Karen; grandson Douglas and wife Jamie; granddaughter DeeNa and husband Josh; four great-grandchildren: Adylee, Miranda, Ayden and Asher; sister Geneva and husband Gerald; brother J.C. & wife Dottie; and very special friends, Gene & Christine Hollrah, Lavern and Helen Wyssman, Nicole Decker- caregiver.

Preceding Richard in death were his mother, father, and son Michael.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church –LWML, or Hospice Circle of Love.
