A Memorial Mass for Elverda Pospisil, 90, of Oklahoma City, formerly of Carrier, will be held at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church on Wednesday, November 2nd at 10:00AM with Reverend Aaron Foshee officiating.
Elverda was born October 21, 1926 at Bison in the home of her parents, Louis and Lula Herrin Markes. Elverda peacefully passed away in the early morning on October 26, 2016 at her daughter’s home in Oklahoma City.
Elverda centered her life around her family. She met her husband, Bill, shortly after he returned from World War II. They were married May 1, 1947 at St. Joseph’s parish in Bison, Oklahoma. After one year of farming at Bison, Bill and Elverda moved to the Carrier community where they farmed for 66 years. She was Bill’s “right hand man” no matter if it was milking their grade A Holstein cows, harvesting wheat, working the fields, hauling hay or any task being done on the farm. A woman of many talents, Elverda also was a fantastic cook, designed and constructed beautiful clothing and crafts, raised prolific vegetable and flower gardens and doted over her children, grandchildren and great grand children. Her gift of total love was more valuable to them than anything in the world. Probably her most cherished gift to Bill was being his polka dancing partner enjoying hours of music and dancing in Oklahoma and surrounding states.
Elverda and Bill were charter members of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. They were the Number 1 Oklahoma Polka Club’s king and queen in the 90’s. She was a 4-H leader, FFA mother and homeroom mother at Carrier school and never missed sporting events, stock shows or any activities of her children and grandchildren. She belonged and served in many capacities with the Altar Societies at St. Michael’s in Goltry and St. Gregory’s, NCCW and Carrier III Home Extension club which she loved having made lifelong cherished friendships.
Elverda is survived by daughter, Sharon Nall of Oklahoma City and son Don of Waukomis, grandsons Micah (Lora) and their children Carter, Georgia and Lucy; Ethan (Krystal) and their children Zoey and Maley; sister-in-law Clara Wurth and brother-in-law Richard Patocka along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Elverda is predeceased by her husband, Bill; parents Louis and Lula Markes; brothers Orval and Eldon Markes; sisters-in-law Beverly Markes, Agnes Lavicky, Adella Patocka, Mary Bray; brothers-in-law John Lavicky, Bob Bray and Bill Wurth; nephews Jimmie Markes and Marty Lavicky and wife Ann.
Donations may be made to St. Gregory’s Samaritan fund or Our Daily Bread through Anderson-Burris Funeral home.
Elverda was a beautiful lady inside and out, terrific mother and wonderful friend to many. She is finally resting and enjoying polka dancing again with Bill in heaven.
