John "Johnny" E. Matthews, passed away on Sunday September 4, 2016.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, September 17, 2016, at Central Christian Church, 1111 W. Broadway in Enid, Oklahoma, with Rev. Dr. Jarrett Banks officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.
Johnny was born in Houston, Texas to Ashton and Helen Matthews on January 30, 1943. He grew up in Enid and graduated from Enid High School. He attended Oklahoma State University and studied Construction Management and had an advanced degree in Drafting and Design. He was in the Air Force, stationed in Lubbock, Texas. He served during Vietnam and was very proud of his military service. After retiring, Johnny’s hobbies included building model rockets and model planes, fishing and golf. He loved watching college and professional sports and was a great fan. He is survived by his two children, Wade Matthews and Heather Gomez, his three grandchildren, Avery, Keegan and Tavian Gomez, two sisters, Virginia and Joyce Matthews, a brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Angie Matthews as well as numerous extended family.
