The funeral service for Michael J. Burk will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 18, 2016 in the Henninger~Hinson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kenneth Wade officiating. Michael was born October 28, 1952 in Watonga, OK to JE Burk and Joan (McBride) Gerken and the Lord took his angel home after a very courageous battle with lung cancer September 8, 2016.
Michael attended schools at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Enid High and Phillips University. He was a long time member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and worked as a self-employed drywall finisher for almost 45 years. In later years he added partners, Shane Hulsey and Terry Layton until he retired due to medical reasons.
Michael was a talented artist and liked to sketch and write poetry. He was an avid music lover and collected albums and stereo equipment and loved to listen to various bands around town. His favorite hobby was playing pool and snooker with various friends. Mike was a great conversationalist and loved to talk politics, religion, history and of course; music. Michael’s greatest achievements were his children and his kind, generous heart and spirit. He was a mentor to many and a wonderful companion in life, may he soar with the angels.
Michael is survived by his life partner of 18 years, Cindy Hill of the home; children, Sean and Jon Burk of Enid; Rachel Burk Delgado of Enid; Keara Shelton of Moberly, MO; brother, Wayne Burk of Maryland; his mother and 4 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by sister, Judy Cornett and brother, Stephen Burk.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Circle of Love with the Funeral Home acting as custodians of the fund.
