ENID, Okla. - Enid, Oklahoma has a rich history of producing great musicians that are known worldwide. From the likes of Michael Hedges, Leona Mitchell, Brad Richter, Kyle Dillingham and many others. Add to that list, David Anderson, Jazz drummer extraordinaire.
-
Anderson is a 1982 Enid High graduate now living in LA. He began playing drums at the age of 7 under guidance of his brother, a professional drummer in Chicago. After moving to Oklahoma, he played his first professional gig at the age of 14 with a local R&B band.
-
Lee Rucker, the Head of Jazz Studies at the University of Central Oklahoma, heard Anderson at a local jazz club and offered him a full scholarship to study the next five years at the University’s jazz program. Anderson eventually left Oklahoma and moved to Los Angeles.
-
His drumming versatility across Jazz, Rock, Funk, Fusion and many others led him to become one of the most sought after drummers in the business. Anderson has performed, recorded and toured the world with some of the biggest names in the music industry across many genres of music including Chaka Khan, Larry Carlton, Stanley Clarke, Dionne Warwick, David Benoit, Tom Scott, Hubert Laws, Clark Terry, The Rippingtons, Eddie Harris, Bill Watrous and many others.
-
Anderson's career didn't stop at music, he has made television appearances on FOX’s “Melrose Place”, BET’s “Jazz Central”, VH1, CNN’s “Showbiz Today” and NBC’s “Watching Ellie”. He is a passionate teacher and is highly sought after for drum clinics, workshops and master classes around the world.
-
Anderson just released the CD "Resolute", which is about following your own instinct's confidently and without question when it comes to the kind of art that you want to make. "I've always had a love for all different types of music. Everything from John Coltrane to AC/DC to Earth Wind & Fire, etc. I've never believed that you have to favor one style of music over another," said Anderson.
-
When making this record he threw his thought process back to the time when he was in his high school years and instrumental artist's would put out records that would have different genre's on the same project. They would just pick music that they thought would be a good vehicle for them perform on. That's what he's tried to do here.
-
You will hear everything from Contemporary Jazz to Blues Rock to Jazz Fusion. There's something on it for everyone. "I was fortunate to be able to have some of the best musicians that I know perform on this CD. Some of them are local to me in the Los Angeles area and some are in places such as Oklahoma, Baltimore MD, and New York City," Anderson explained.
-
This type of collaboration is now possible because of the Internet! "We are no longer limited by scheduling studio time or availability," said Anderson,"It's a great thing for me as I am able to get some of my oldest friends that I love playing with to perform! I hope everyone will enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it!"
