ENID, Okla. - The Construction Technology program at Autry Technology Center recently received a donation of $1,800 from the Oklahoma State Home Builders Association. Construction Technology instructor, Jeff Clark, received the donation from Steve Sullivan, officer for OSHBA, at the May meeting of the Enid Home Builders Association.

“The OSHBA works closely with the Enid Home Builders Association,” said Dale Gates, Director of Curriculum at Autry. “Both organizations have been impressed with our instructor, [Clark], and his ability to graduate knowledgeable students ready to go to work in the residential home building field.”

The donation will go to purchase additional cordless tools that will speed up the construction process.
-
“The donation speaks volumes about our instructor and the work he does to prepare students for the residential building workforce,” Gates said.

The OSHBA is a trade association of over 2,500 members in 11 local associations statewide serving as advocates for Oklahoma’s housing industry, according to their website. They also serve as a corporate channel through which builders contribute time, money and services to local community service projects and education initiatives. They are an affiliate of the National Association of Home Builders, a federation of more than 850 state and local associations with over 185,000 members nationwide.

The Construction Technology program at Autry teaches high school juniors and seniors, as well as adults, the skills needed in the construction industry. Students learn blueprint reading, site layout, estimating, foundation work, interior and exterior work, and how to use both hand and power tools. Each year the Construction Technology program builds a house that is auctioned to the public. This year’s house was a three bedroom, one and three-fourths bathroom home with 1,653 square feet. The money from the auction goes toward the next year’s house.

Autry Technology Center has been a part of the Enid community since 1967 and is one of 29 CareerTech schools across Oklahoma. The center has more than 25 career programs and offers a wide variety of evening and weekend short-term courses and certifications for many diverse career fields. Autry serves over 16,000 individuals each year, including many area employees who receive training through the Business and Industry Services Department that works with over 500 local businesses each year.
