A graveside service for Carol Ellington, age 93, of Enid, will be at Riverside Cemetery, Hotchkiss, Colorado, at a later date. Cremation arrangements are by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home.
Carol was born to Hilmer L. and Ella B. (Dale) Grasmoen on December 28, 1922 in Plaza, North Dakota, and passed away on Friday, June 3, 2016, in Enid.
Carol grew up in Plaza, North Dakota, where she graduated high school in 1940. After clerical jobs in nearby towns, she moved to California and worked for a shipping company during WWII. She then moved to Chicago and worked in admissions at Illinois Technical Institute where she met Rex as he worked on his PhD. On July 15, 1949, she married Rex Truesdale Ellington, Jr. in Chicago, Illinois. Carol was a homemaker and supported her husband in his career. She established homes in Chattanooga, Chicago, Tulsa, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Grand Junction, and finally Norman, moving due to her husband’s career in the energy industry. Carol willingly looked forward to all these moves, and made new friends easily. They moved back to Grand Junction, where Rex passed away in 2004. Carol then returned to Oklahoma to be closer to family, moving to Enid as her dependence on family support increased.
Carol was always very proud of her family and would light up at any contact with them especially as her health failed. She had an amazing sense of humor, and will be remembered for that, as well as her distinctive sense of style.
Carol is survived by her children, Lisa Carol Ellington of Fairview, and Rex Truesdale Ellington III and wife Dixie of Holland, Michigan; four grandchildren, Kathryn and husband Dr. Justin Anderson, Samantha and husband Zach Cottrill, Benjamin Ellington, and Bailey Ellington; three great-grandchildren, Owen Anderson, Colton and Casen Cottrill.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two sisters.
Memorials may be made to The Commons or St. Jude’s Hospital.
