The graveside service Honoring the life of Beryl Gene Miller, 83, of Enid will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday March 19, 2016 in the Enid Cemetery, officiated by his Pastor, Bruce Johnson of The First Church of the Nazarene. Gene Miller will be buried near his parents. Services and complete cremation care are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.
He was born in Shattuck, Oklahoma on May 27, 1932 and went to heaven on March 8, 2016. He was the 6th child of seven children born to William Wesley Miller (1878 -1961) and Iva Blanche Miller (1892 - 1986). He was preceded in death by his siblings Ralph K. Miller (1919 -1999); James Troy Miller (1920 - 2000); Iva Trix Sutton (1922 - 2001); William Gale Miller (1930 - 2013); and Ava Bim Jones (1927 - 2014), His youngest sister, Twyla Bee Montano who was born in 1933, currently resides at Greenbrier Nursing Home in Enid.
The Miller family moved to Enid in 1945. Gene lived in the home with his parents. The large family had many wonderful memories together. Gene had a caring spirit and always kept up with the activities of his numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was an avid Sooner fan and enjoyed watching sports on television and playing dominos with his family.
When Gene was a younger man, he was known by many children in Enid as the “whistle-blower” at Jerry’s Roller Rink. He was very proud of his many speed-skating trophies. He worked much of his life in the family business, at Polly & Peggy’s Cafe on North Grand and could be seen walking vigorously to and from work. He was also employed for a time at the Enid News & Eagle Newspaper.
He attended the First Church of the Nazarene, 324 N Cleveland St. His pastor recalled that Gene was always the first one to Church and the last one to leave. In 2011, Gene joined one brother and two sisters who were already at Greenbrier Nursing Home. They were able to check up on each other, share mealtime and enjoy an occasional game of dominos.
Gene was known to be a kind, hard-working man who always had a big smile. He had a huge heart and was loved by everyone who knew him. He kept every birth, graduation and wedding announcement of his many relatives and friends.
