Mary Elizabeth Miller

Elizabeth-Miller-1456316793A Memorial Service for Mary Elizabeth Miller, age 88, will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 27, 2016, at First United Methodist Church of Enid, with Rev. Randy Mitchell and Rev. Susan Southall officiating. Cremation arrangements are by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home and Crematory.

Elizabeth was born to Grady and Anna Vera (Parks) Johnson on May 23, 1927, in Ardmore, OK, and passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2016, in Enid.

Elizabeth’s family moved to Durant, OK and then Texas, where her father was a football coach. Afterwards, they moved to Norman, OK and later Heavener, OK where she graduated in 1945 as valedictorian. Elizabeth graduated from Oklahoma A&M in 1949. Elizabeth met her husband Dale at the Wesley Foundation, and they were married August 25th, 1949. They made their home in Enid on the farm and were married 65 years before his death in 2014.

Elizabeth was active in extension clubs for over fifty years. She was a 4-H adult leader and President of the 4-H Leaders Council. She was active in the First United Methodist Church, where she sponsored the Junior High youth group and taught the 7th grade Sunday school class for 13 years. She then taught the John Russell Class, a young married couples class. Elizabeth was active in United Methodist Women and served as President, District President, and Conference President. She served as chairman of Administrative Council and chaired many committees. She was Conference Associate lay leader. She volunteered at Integris Bass Hospital for many years. Elizabeth served as President of the YWCA and was named “Woman of the Year”. She was inducted into the Agriculture Hall of Fame in 1970.

Elizabeth enjoyed leading Bible studies and was a Stephens minister.

She is survived by her children, Larry Miller and wife Paula, of Enid, Retta Miller of Dallas, and Pam Ardern of South Carolina; grandchildren, Chris and wife Jessica, Kyle and wife Nina, and Kevin; great grandchildren, Zachary, Jude, Eleanor, and Kellen; two sisters, Edna Mae Hennigh of Dallas and Anna Ruth Powers of Midwest City.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Enid, OK, for the Dale and Elizabeth Miller Camp Scholarship Trust.
