ENID, Okla. - Research shows that flossing could add up to 6 years to your life span! Flossing keeps your immune system in good shape - because the same bacteria that causes gum disease can lead to inflammation in your arteries, and cause heart disease. Getting rid of mouth bacteria keeps your whole body healthy.
-
Regular flossing and brushing can prevent chronic gum disease. Gum disease is an infection, which causes the body to make certain chemicals (to fight the inflammation), which can predispose the body to systemic diseases, like diabetes, heart disease and cancer. Oral bacteria present in great numbers in gum disease, can enter the blood stream and cause serious health problems directly.
-
A 2008 New York University study showed that daily flossing reduced the amount of gum-disease-causing bacteria in the mouth. According to studies done at Emory University by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, common gum problems such as gingivitis and periodontitis (an inflammation and/or infection of the tissues surrounding and supporting the teeth) lead to a 23% – 46% higher rate of death.
-
Remove all of the dental plaque that you can from your teeth daily, by brushing, flossing, water-picking, tooth picking and mouthwash rinsing. Also, visit your dentist for gum disease testing—and if you have the infection, get it treated. It may just lengthen your life!
