Always know that the Festival is held on the 2nd Saturday of August. Their rodeo kicks off the weeks activities on Thursday night at Rusty Acres, located just north of the Highway 81 and Highway 17 intersection. Friday is parade day at 5 pm with the last night of the rodeo beginning at 8 pm. The Great Plains Carnival will open up on Thursday night and run through Saturday night. Saturday is Festival Day with the 5 K run at 7:30 am and opening ceremonies at 9.

Rush Springs, a small town in west-central Oklahoma, lies about an hour's drive southwest of Oklahoma City and is named for its natural springs near the head of Rush Creek. The small town is best known around Oklahoma as the site of the Rush Springs Watermelon Festival each summer.

The Rush Springs Watermelon Festival has been held continuously since 1948. It had its beginning in 1940 and has become one of the most popular festivals in the state. The festival has proven popular, since its beginning the crowds have increased to almost 30,000 visitors each year. Over 50,000 pounds of watermelons are purchased from area melon growers and served to festival visitors during the day.
