EPS & Enid Community Earn National Accolades
for Community Public/Private Partnerships
One of the nation's most-read magazines about school-related issues has recognized Enid Public Schools as a nationwide leader in education.
District Administration selected EPS as a “District of Distinction” for its commitment to developing quality and lasting community partnerships. The district is featured in DA’s March 2015 issue. See the Article
This is the second nationwide publication to recognize the district in just the last four months. Superintendent Dr. Darrell Floyd said the latest award is especially exciting because it focuses on the community’s investment in local schools and students.
The article is entitled Enid Public Schools: Public/Private Partnerships Lead to Better, Stronger Schools.
“Enid Public Schools believes that community partnerships are the key to enhancing and enriching opportunities for our students. We are blessed to have a community that understands and appreciates the connection between public education and economic development,” he said. “The support of local businesses, individuals, churches and non-profits has helped catapult our efforts to ensure every student is college and career ready. We are proud to offer an outstanding school system that contributes to a strong local workforce and strengthens the quality of life for local residents.”
“Districts of Distinction” is a national recognition program created by the magazine to honor school districts that are leading the way with new ideas that work. Magazine executives said they try to recognize established initiatives that are yielding quantifiable benefits, and that could be replicated by other districts.
According to JD Solomon, editorial director for District Administration, EPS “serves as a model for school leaders across the country.”
The article features EPS’ efforts to develop private/public partnerships that strengthen the school experience for local students. Achievements mentioned in the publication include:
- A $99 million bond issue approved by voters for the construction of two new schools and improvements to all facilities.
- A $3.4 million donation from nine local businesses and organizations to enhance the district’s capital improvement efforts.
- Contributions from the Inasmuch Foundation and the United Way of Enid and Northwest Oklahoma to open the Carver Early Childhood Center.
- EHS’ selection for the National Math and Science Initiative, which was made possible through private donations from four local companies.
According to its website, District Administration is the most widely received publication for K12 district-level school leaders nationwide. DA provides coverage of education technology, news, curriculum, policy, finance, profiles and more.
