ENID, OK - June 22, 2017 - The Enid Amateur Radio Club (EARC) will be setting up field operations at the Oklahoma Region I Medical Emergency Response Center, 1800 S Van Buren on June 24 at noon for their annual Ham Radio Field Day. Setup will begin Saturday morning at around 9:00am. The event will last through Sunday, June 25 at noon.

Field Day is an opportunity for the EARC to set up their club equipment including radios, antennas, generators and other equipment in a simulated emergency situation so that communications can occur without power from the electrical grid. These simulations are designed to create preparedness in the event a real emergency occurs.

The event is open to the public. It is an opportunity for those interested in ham radio and emergency communications to get their first real experience communicating with others around the country using amateur radios. They will also be demonstrating the use of amateur radio — even allowing visitors to talk to stations around the world (if conditions allow).

The EARC is active in the community by providing organization and communications assistance for events like the Tri-State and Cherokee Strip parades, the fireworks for the 4th of July at Meadowlake Park, and for numerous charitable walking, running, and biking events put on by charitable organizations.

The club boasts former members such as Astronaut Owen K. Garriott who has stated that the skills he learned in ham radio helped him get interested in the topics that led him to become an astronaut. The EARC welcomes anyone interested in radio communications and will provide the opportunity for anyone to experiment with the club radios and learn more about becoming a licensed ham radio operator. I found it interesting that some individuals don’t realize that HAM radio operators are not all in their 80s+. Also, that such operators should have any citizen’s utmost respect. For what the younger generation may not realize is that the HAM operators will see many people through emergency situations when all ce
ll phones may be inoperable. My hat is off to all with advanced licenses I may owe you my life some day..This post is dedicated to all those with limited knowledge of what this technology can do.
