A Celebration of Life for Lawny R. Martens, age 81, of Enid, will be 10:00 am, Monday, August 5, 2024, at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kenneth Wade officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery with the United States Army providing full military honors. Lawny’s grandson Hayden will honor his grandfather by playing TAPS at the graveside. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory. Lawny was born in Goltry, Oklahoma, on April 28, 1943, to Herman and Buelah (Voth) Martens, and passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2024, in Enid.
Lawny graduated from Helena High School in 1961. Shortly after, Lawny joined the National Guard, and after serving for 39 years, he retired as a Master Sergeant. He married Wilma Pitts on July 11, 1993. They spent many happy years square dancing, cruising in the Mustang with Twisters classic car club, camping, and running around with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After retirement, Lawny spent his time doing as much camping and fishing as possible. You could often find him tinkering in the garage or the shed. “Nothing is ever really broken until Papa can’t fix it!
Lawny was proceeded in death by his parents, Herman and Beulah Martens, and brother-in-law Bill Walton. He is survived by his wife, Wilma Martens of Enid; Neil Martens and wife Tammy of Broken Arrow; David Pitts and wife Kellie of Seminole; Mark Pitts and wife Sheri of Enid; six grandchildren; Hunter and Hayden Martens, Kelsie Pitts, Allie Pitts and Ashley Lowe, Kiersten McCormick and husband Aaron; three great-grandchildren; Lindy, Lila and Levi. He is also survived by his sister, Sharon Walton of Katy, TX, along with a host of nieces, nephews, friends and adopted family that he loved as his own.
Memorial contributions in Lawny’s name may be made to the Woodring Wall of Honor and Veteran’s Park with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
