Brett Schriever

March 23, 1939 — July 14, 2024

Lt. Col. Brett Arnold Schriever USAF, Ret.1939 – 2024.

Brett Arnold Schriever, 85, of Enid, Oklahoma, passed away among family on July 14, 2024. A celebration of life for Brett will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at Ladusau-Evans with Pastor Travis Howerton officiating. Service arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory.

His journey began in San Francisco, California as the first-born child, and only son, of General Bernard A. Schriever and Dora Brett Schriever. As a military dependent, Brett grew up in many different places and was destined to choose a life of service to his country, like his father and many ancestors going back to the Revolutionary War.

Brett began his career by attending Electronic Warfare Operator’s School at Kessler AFB and moved on to multiple assignments as an USAF Navigator on “Spectre” AC-130 Gunships including Hickman AFB, Hawaii, Ubon AFB, Thailand, 5th Air Force Headquarters, Saigon, then to the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. as a staff officer in the Operations directorate and finally to NORAD in Colorado Springs, CO, eventually becoming the chief of the NORAD Systems Center, after which he retired in 1981.

During his many years of service, he received the Air Medal, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Longevity Service Award, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, the Air Force Presidential Unit Citation, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award and Valor Device, the RVN Gallantry Cross with Palm, and the RVN Campaign Medal amongst others.

After retirement, Brett worked for several government contractors as a senior systems engineer and program manager. He also formed his own company with a friend to pursue government contracts. Brett was pursuing a doctoral degree before a family emergency precipitated a move to Oklahoma City, and ultimately to Enid.

Brett Schriever was passionate about the charities he participated in. He served Austin Bluffs Sertoma Club of Colorado Springs for many years and helped start the Sertoma Field of Dreams Baseball Camp for the deaf and hard of hearing children. He was also a lifetime member of the Spectre Association and the Air Force Association of Enid. He spent the rest of his life in Enid enjoying his family, hunting, and golfing with good friends.

Brett was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He is survived by his wife Marilyn, son Bernard Schriever II and wife Deborah of Manitou Springs, CO; daughter Bridget Burke and husband Jamie of Shafer, MN; daughter Teresa Schriever and husband Dino of Pittsburgh, PA; son Lt. Col. Michael Schriever and wife Carrie of Colorado Springs, CO; and son Andrew Schriever and wife Amber of Longdale, OK; grandchildren Kristin, Ashley, Cassie, Basia, Isabella, Josephina, Brett Michael, A.J., Jonathan, Rylan, Royce, Kalia, ; great grandchildren Atlas, Andrea, Astrid; and his sister Dodie Moeller of Bethany Beach, DE.
