Children of Groendyke Employees Earn Memorial Scholarship

ENID, OK - Groendyke Transport has awarded Alexandria Fowler, Carys Nguyen, and Maecee Emmerson this year’s Jonathan Luevano Memorial Scholarship.

Fowler receives $1,500 toward her fall tuition, and Nguyen and Emmerson each receive $500 as runners-up.

Fowler, the daughter of Executive Assistant Frances Fowler at Groendyke’s corporate office, is an incoming sophomore and psychology major at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. She finished high school with a 4.04 grade-point average and has a 3.553 cumulative GPA in college.

Nguyen, the daughter of Houston Driver John Nguyen, is an incoming freshman at the University of Texas at Austin and plans to major in biology. She finished high school with a 4.0 GPA, and is a member of National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, and Science Honor Society. She is also an AP Scholar with Distinction.

Emmerson, the daughter of Revenue and Pay Cycle Specialist Ashley Benz at Groendyke corporate, is an incoming freshman at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. She graduated high school with a 4.27 GPA, and plans to major in psychology.

The scholarship, which was first awarded in 2016, is given each year to a dependent or grandchild of a Groendyke employee to help pay for their education. It honors the memory of Jonathan Luevano, a young driver at Groendyke’s Fort Worth, Texas, terminal who was shot and killed on May 7, 2015 while delivering fuel to a local convenience store.

“We are proud to support our employees' families with this scholarship and honor the memory of Jonathan Luevano,” said CEO Greg Hodgen. “Alexandria, Carys, and Maecee are all deserving recipients of this scholarship, and we are honored to help them achieve their academic goals.”
