Graveside service for Charles Elmer Holler, 86 Enid, is 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2024, in the Enid Cmetery under the direction of Anderson-Burris Funeral Home and Crematory. Charles passed from this life on Wednesday, April 24th, 2024, with his family by his side. He was born on a farm outside of Athens, Illinois to Ethel Mae Wiseman Holler and Charles Morley Holler on December 1, 1937. He attended Liberty Elementary and Athens Public Schools graduating in 1956. While in school he was active in FFA, basketball, and track and field. Following graduation, he joined the Air Force and quickly took leadership roles and excelled as an aircraft mechanic. After boot camp he was stationed at Vance Air Force Base in Enid Oklahoma. Shortly after arriving he met his future wife, Glennis Holler while hanging out with friends at Van’s Drive In on Van Buren. They were married in 1958 and welcomed their first child, Vickie in 1959 and their second, Charlie in 1961. Charles was stationed overseas in Okinawa and served stateside in Arizona and Montana. He left the military in the spring of 1965 building a home in North Enid where he and Glennis have continued to reside. After leaving the military, Charles began working at Vance Air Force Base as a senior mechanic and leadman on T-37. He was later instrumental in unionizing and became the Union representative. A position he was enthusiastic in serving and thrived in contributing his skills to negotiations and arbitrations. He stopped working in the mid 1990’s and began his many adventures as a retiree doing all of things that inspired him.
My dad was adored by his family and friends. He had five sisters and three brothers with which he shared an incredible bond. He loved furry creatures of all kinds. He cherished his time coaching Charlie’s little league baseball and could still tell you the line-up and stories of their great plays. He was passionate about his politics, was very well read and the smartest guy. Dad loved to laugh, had a great sense of humor, and knew how to have fun. He was a huge St. Louis Cardinal’s and Oklahoma State Cowboy fan. He enjoyed gardening, mushroom hunting, riding his tractor around the yard, and doing anything outdoors. He always had a project that included building or planting. But most of all he loved, loved, loved his family and did it well. He taught us to persevere, be strong, take care of those you love, be good and do good, and to stand up for what is important.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ethel Holler, his son, Charles Mark Holler, his brother Kenny Holler and sister Oni Minor. He is survived by his wife Glennis, daughter Vickie and spouse Margie, grandchild Silas (Tulsa), sisters Marrietta Wells, Donna Boeckmann, Linda Wells, and Becky Reich; brothers Jim and Phil Holler all of Illinois and numerous nieces and nephews.
