Phyllis Anne Mitchell (Anderson)

Funeral services for Phyllis Anne Mitchell, age 93, of Enid, will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Devon Krause officiating. Her final resting place will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with arrangements provided by Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory.
Phyllis Anne Mitchell was born on June 27, 1930, in Enid, Oklahoma, to Paul Cailey and Helen Pauline Anderson. She passed away on April 17, 2024, in Enid, Oklahoma.
Phyllis attended Enid schools, graduating from Enid High School in 1948. Phyllis attended Oklahoma State University, which was then Oklahoma A & M, graduating in 1952 from the school of Home Economics, with a B.S. degree in preschool and elementary education. While a student at the university, she was a member of Chi Omega sorority, Kappa Delta Pi (an honorary education fraternity), and Omicron Nu (an honorary home economics fraternity).

On April 6, 1952, Phyllis married her high school sweetheart, John Chatt (J.C.) Mitchell. The couple lived on a wheat and cattle farm north of Kremlin, Oklahoma, where they raised three children; John, Sarah, and Susan. During her time at Kremlin, Phyllis was active in the Kremlin Methodist Church, Home Extension Clubs, and did 4-H work. She taught first grade at Harrison Grade School in Enid, and transitioned to kindergarten when this was added to the school system.

Phyllis and J.C. moved back to Enid in 1981, after J.C. started Sundance Energy. Phyllis was active in the Enid community. She served on the YWCA board, attended the First United Methodist Church, sang in the choir, assisted on the Sanctuary Guild, and volunteered as the Sooner Sunday School class treasurer. She belonged to the Chi Omega Alumnae group, Kappa Kappa Iota, Hoe and Grow Garden Club, Chapter F.A. PEO (a sisterhood of women supporting other women through advanced education), and delivered food for Mobile Meals.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 50 years, brother William B. (Andy) Anderson of Denison, Texas, and daughter in-law, Susan Lynn Hronopulos-Mitchell, of Enid.
Three children survive Phyllis; John Chatt Mitchell Jr., and wife Sherry, of Enid; Sarah Anne Tebow, of Enid; and Susan Jan Mitchell, of Edmond.

She is survived by five grandchildren: Jessica Mitchell-Trojan, and husband Tim, of Stillwater; Matthew Paul Mitchell & wife Kaycie, of Kremlin; Joseph Christopher Farrant & wife Linzy, of Oklahoma City; Megan Anne Hart & husband Josh, of Virginia; and Zackery Neil Tebow, of Enid.
Phyllis is also survived by seven great-grandchildren; Mitchell Anthony Trojan and Mary Anne Trojan, of Stillwater; Cole Chatt Mitchell and Morgan Anderson Mitchell, of Kremlin/Pond Creek; and Alexander Lafayette Hart, Anderson Eugene Hart, and Lillian Iris Hart, all of Virginia.

Memorial donations in Phylliss name may be made to the Enid YWCA, the Enid First United Methodist Church, or the Kremlin Community United Methodist Church with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
