December 16, 1950 - April 14, 2024
Ronald Clinton Brakhage, aged 73, passed away on April 14, 2024. Born on December 16, 1950, in Enid, Oklahoma, to Willard and Anna Mae (Sebranek) Brakhage, he grew up alongside his three sisters, Barbara, Sandra, and Wanda, on the family farm in the Hunter and Garber area.
Ron was no stranger to hard work, dedicating countless hours to the family farm while also finding time to excel in basketball and baseball for the Hunter Bulldogs, leaving behind many memorable tales. After graduating from Hunter High School in 1969, he managed United Supermarket Stores in Enid and Altus, Oklahoma, before transitioning into a career in sales and construction, proudly owning multiple rental properties.
However, Ron's true joy in life was being a father to his three children: Tammy, Karissa, and Ryan. He enjoyed following their athletic endeavors, fondly recalling their achievements and comparing them to his own stats from yesteryears, "Well, Ole’ Ron scored 44 points a game—and that was BEFORE the three-point line!" His love for his children shone through in conversations with friends as he took immense pride in their accomplishments.
Outside of work, Ron enjoyed spirited games of pitch, with game nights often filled with rowdy banter, especially when victory was on his side. He also enjoyed puzzles, tending to his garden, and embracing the farm life.
Ron was a man of strong convictions and never shied away from expressing his opinions, regardless of the topic. His enthusiasm for lively debates and discussions was provoking, yet he never hesitated to engage with friends and strangers alike. Despite his strong opinions, Ron had a heart for helping others and a great sense of humor. His outgoing personality and genuine interest in those around him made him a well-known figure in his community.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents and survived by three children, Tammy (Scott) Lang, Karissa (Kelly) Brown, and Ryan Brakhage; six grandsons, Caleb (Jacey) Lang, Brinley (Dani) Brown, Cameron (Katlyn) Lang, Bryson Brown, Dax Brakhage, and Luka Brakhage; one great grandson, Carter Lang and one great granddaughter on the way; three sisters, Barbara (Mike) Letteer, Sandra (Terry) Schovanec, and Wanda (Fred) White; nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
A celebration of Ron's life will be held on April 19, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Spencer officiating. Burial will follow in Garber Cemetery. In honor of his love of gardening and sharing vegetables with his community, we ask that memorials be made to Meals-On-Wheels or Loaves and Fishes through Anderson-Burris.
Ron's love, laughter, and unforgettable personality will forever remain in our hearts.
May God bless him eternally as he rests in peace, knowing he was loved dearly.
