Celebration of Life Services for Terry Olen Baker, 79 of Waukomis, will be held on Monday, October 2, 2023, at the Waukomis Christian Church at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Dave Jones officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Waukomis Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Sunday from 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Terry was born July 22, 1944, at Enid, Oklahoma to Harry and Margret Johnson Baker, and passed away peacefully early morning Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at his home in Waukomis, Ok.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in the Vietnam War from 1963-1969. He married Dayna Bozarth on April 9, 1967 in Woodward, Ok. Terry was married to the love of his life for 56 years, and he lived his life for his family, each and every member. He was a very hard worker driving semi-trucks for many years, and was a wonderful father, provider, and role model to his kids. Terry was the type of man who never met a stranger and would help anyone from family to people homeless on the street. He had such a genuine, charismatic personality. Everyone in town knew him as Grandpa or Ornery because he would always be giving people a hard time. He used to sing silly songs and made jokes like, “The phones leaking,” if your phone was ringing. Terry was a very proud veteran and displayed it to solders serving and retired. He thanked every military person that crossed his path. He was an avid counselor for any alcoholic and he had so much wisdom in his words.

He was a die-hard OU fan, he loved fishing, car races, and going to all the kids school activities, as well as going to his Navy reunion every year with his shipmates from the USS Kawishiwi. He enjoyed traveling with his family, including his trip to Brazil to visit Rubia Rigatti, whom he loved like a daughter. Terry was a God loving man and he loved all of his church family. With Terry’s passing onto heaven, we know that we all have another guardian angel. He was so loved and will be deeply missed by his family and friends alike.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Dixie Baker and Judy Coen, brothers-in-law, Joe Coen and Bob Crites, great grandson, Harlow Ray Sutherlin, his aunt Lydia Peppers, nieces, Melody Dunn and Sherri Crites, and nephew, Heath Crites. He is survived by his wife Dayna, children Robin Sutherlin and husband Chad, and James Baker. Also, children he raised as his own, Starla Bass and husband Charlie and Teri Blitz. Five grandkids, Tyler Sutherlin, Allison Sutherlin, Austin Sutherlin, Bailey Sutherlin, and Alex Baker. Two great-grandchildren, Maizy and Rosie, his brother, Ken Baker and wife Linda, numerous nieces and nephews as well.

His services will be streamed Live, online on the Waukomis Christian Church’s Facebook page. Memorials may be made through the funeral home to St. Jude’s Children’s Cancer Center. Online guestbook and condolences at www.andersonburris.com.
