The graveside services celebrating and honoring the life of Denver "J.R." Swiggart, 91, of Enid will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday September 21, 2023 in the Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum with Pastor Jesse Johnson officiating. Military Honors will follow conducted by the United States Marine Corps. A family visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. Wednesday September 20, 2023 at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home. J.R. was born December 8, 1932 to Denver and Grace Schwind Swiggart in Ringwood, Oklahoma and passed from this life in his home, surrounded by his family on September 18, 2023 in Enid, Oklahoma.
He was born in Ringwood and grew up in that area. He enlisted in the United States Marines in August 1953, served in the Korean war until he was honorably discharged in March 1959. He met his lifelong love Betty Keplinger and married her on August 20, 1952, in Durant, and later they moved to Enid where they would spend their life together. He worked at CO-OP in Enid as the Warehouse Foreman and later Central Oklahoma Freight Lines as a Driver retiring in 1989. After retirement he did what he really loved and helped his brother-in-law farm and worked cattle, he was a "farm boy" through and through. He was an avid deer and turkey hunter and a passionate fisherman. He loved the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years Betty Swiggart, of the home, three daughters, Cheryl Swiggart, of Enid, Debbie Ruppenthal and husband Boyd, of Lahoma, and Stephannie Wahl, of Enid, one son, Russell Swiggart and wife Tammy, of Edmond; seven grandchildren, Chris and Jason Mongold, Ellia Hoskins, Josh Wahl, and Rahndi, Olivia, and Avery Swiggart; two sisters, Trudy Gragert and Deanna Starr.
He was preceded in death by his parents Denver and Grace Swiggart, one son Michael Swiggart, and four siblings, Rosie, Gracie, Ray, and Dewayne Harold. Memorials may be made in his honor to St. Jude's with Brown-cummings Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
