Monday, September 23rd, 1946 - Sunday, July 9th, 2023
A Memorial service for Janice Holtsclaw will be 2:00pm, Monday, July 17, 2023, at Immanuel Baptist Church in Wichita, Kansas with Pastor David Crowther officiating. Cremation arrangements and services are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory.
Janice Coleman Holtsclaw was born September 23, 1946 in Aurora, Missouri. She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Gerontology in 1990 at WSU. Janice spent 27 years as a locksmith at WSU. She was known as the Locklady. In the 70’s she broke through a dominated field, with her skill, until her retirement. At the time of her retirement, she was the first woman to retire from the skilled trade in the Physical Plant. Janice married the love of her life Richard Holtsclaw in October of 1993. They met at the WSU Physical Plant in 1987. One significant thing that happened on their wedding day was meeting with a Friendship Family couple at their wedding reception. They soon became involved and were “matched” with Collin and Christine Chew, from Malaysia. Next came Yuko Tanaka from Japan. She was a cherished Friendship Family Student from 1996 to 1999. For the next four years, the Holtsclaws welcomed more students into their home. Janice loved her town, flowers, arts, and travel. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, but most of all she loved to share the love of Jesus! She and Richard volunteered in multiple positions in their beloved church and the senior center. Janice was a great Mother and Grandmother, and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband, of 30 years, Richard Holtsclaw; son, Gregory Fisher (Gervie), of Jackson, New Jersey; step daughter, Susan Harrison (John), of Enid and Shannon Spears (Brent), of Pittsburg, Kansas; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; Aunt, Virginia Keatts , of Golden City MO, and her brothers and sisters-in-law.
Janice is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest, and Mary Coleman.
