Enid Board to Vote on New Superintendent Monday

ENID, OK - Dr. Dudley Darrow is expected to be returning to Enid Public Schools with a new title.

Enid Board of Education members will vote on Darrow’s employment as the next superintendent during a special board meeting that has been called for Monday at noon.

Darrow, who is currently the superintendent at Chisholm Public Schools, will step into his new position at Enid this summer, pending board approval. He will succeed Dr. Darrell Floyd, who will retire after serving as EPS superintendent for nine years.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Darrow back to Enid Public Schools,” Enid Board President Torry Turnbow said. “He is a proven education leader – with experience in multiple positions across our district. He has invested his career, not only in public education, but also in the students, staff and families of Enid Public Schools. We know his knowledge and skills, along with his relationships with staff and community members, will help us continue our tradition of excellence and take the district to new heights.”

Darrow spent most of his career as an education professional with Enid Public Schools as a teacher, coach and administrator. He began his career in education, however, as a teacher and coach at Mustang Public Schools in 2002, before accepting similar positions at Enid High School (EHS). After 10 years in the classroom, Darrow entered school administration in 2011 as an assistant principal at EHS before becoming principal five years later.

In 2020, Darrow was named the assistant superintendent of secondary education where he served until accepting his current position as Chisholm Public Schools superintendent.

Darrow received his bachelor’s degree in education from Northwestern Oklahoma State University (NWOSU), his master’s degree in school administration from University of Central Oklahoma and his doctorate from Oklahoma State University. He has also served as an adjunct instructor for NWOSU.

"I am honored to be selected as the superintendent of Enid Public Schools and appreciate the trust the school board has placed in me. I’m also proud to be taking over from my previous supervisor and mentor, Dr. Darrell Floyd. While I did not anticipate that this opportunity would present itself, I am excited to return home to a district I served for 17 years,” Darrow said. “I’m also grateful to the Chisholm school board and school community for their support during my time there. Enid is truly blessed to be served by two outstanding school districts.”

Board members partnered with the Oklahoma State School Boards Association to help facilitate the search, including hosting a community survey and focus groups. According to Turnbow, community feedback provided valuable insight into what parents, students, teachers, district staff and community members value in a superintendent.

“Thank you to the parents, community members, teachers and staff who responded to the survey and attended the focus group,” Turnbow said. “Your participation was incredibly valuable to us as we navigated the search process and considered candidates. We are confident Dr. Darrow embodies the expertise and characteristics our community is looking for in the next superintendent.”

OSSBA has helped facilitate superintendent searches across the state, working with other school board associations throughout the country to ensure a competitive candidate pool. The non-profit organization has partnered with several Oklahoma school districts of all sizes to perform superintendent searches, including Perry, Clinton and Edmond.
