The services celebrating and honoring the life of Leonard Clay Northcutt Sr. 83, of Enid will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday April 15, 2023, in the Central Christian Church with Reverend Don Johnson and Reverend Roland Slater officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.
Leonard was born October 24, 1939, to Owen Clay and Anna Lee Doggett Northcutt in Dallas, Texas and passed from this life April 11, 2023, in Oklahoma City. He was raised and educated in Lindsey, Oklahoma. He graduated from Oklahoma City University in 1963 and moved to Enid to join the family’s car dealership. His parents passed in an airplane accident in 1965 and Leonard took over the ownership of the dealership at the age of twenty-six.
Leonard married Lois Coffman in Lindsey, Oklahoma in 1957 and from this union came one child Kenneth. He later married Mona Cotton in 1967, from this union came two children, Clay and Scott; Mona passed in 1990. He was married to Roxanne Mullholland in 1991 until her passing in 2012. He married Kayle Costello May 10, 2014, in Freedom, Oklahoma.
Leonard was always very involved in his community; he was a man of integrity. He was president and chairman of the fundraising campaign for United Way of Northwest Oklahoma and was the winner of the 2010 Dick Lambertz Memorial Award for his work with United Way. In 1973 he was named Outstanding Young Man of the Enid Jaycees. He served as president of Denny Price Family YMCA, president of Enid Rotary Club 1967-1968, and chairman of Enid Development Coalition. He was named Salvation Army Outstanding Citizen of the Year in 1980 and served on the Enid Community Foundation board. He received the Greater Enid Chamber of Commerce’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013 and was also named the chamber’s Businessperson of the Year in 1995. He served as director and chairman of the Oklahoma Motor Vehicle Commission.
Leonard was passionate about education and was involved in the founding of Emmanuel Christian School and served as their first board president. He was also president of the Enid-Phillips Partnership drive in 1978. He helped promote the Enid Public Schools bond issue in 2010 for repairs to local schools and the building of two new elementary schools.
Leonard was an avid golfer, boater, and pilot; he was a loving father, a man of impeccable faith and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was an OU football fan and a wannabe race car driver.
Leonard is survived by his wife Kayle Northcutt, of the home, son Kenneth Northcutt, son Scott Northcutt, his wife Christy and their children Nate and Len, of Enid, and niece Ginger Walker and husband Ron, of Edmond. Kayle’s children include daughter Nicole Cadell and husband Casey and their children Hudson, Kennedy and Jennings, of Enid, son Dallas Smith and wife Sarah, of Lawton, and daughter Debbie Costello, of Enid. Roxanne’s children include daughter Chania Halfacre and husband Don and their children Cole, Reid, and Hannah, of Pensacola, FL.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Clay and Anna Lee Northcutt; previous wives Mona Northcutt and Roxanne Northcutt, one son Clay Northcutt, and siblings, Owen, his wife Sherry, Sharron and Cecilia.
Memorials may be made in his honor to Westminster Church and the United Way with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
