A Celebration of Life for Muriel L. “Mo” Caswell, age 75, of Enid, Oklahoma will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, December 22, 2022 at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jim Edmison officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Muriel, affectionately known by “Mo”, was born February 6, 1947 in Sibly, Iowa to Richard and Bonnie (Murray) Bangert, and passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at The Commons in Enid, Oklahoma.
As a young girl, she enjoyed tap dancing and piano lessons. Mo attended school in Sheldon, Iowa graduating from Sheldon High School in 1965. She was a member of her church and high school choirs. She attended South Dakota State University, and then went on to pursue a career in nursing. She graduated from nursing school in Omaha, Nebraska and went on to practice in Denver, Colorado.
Mo married George L. Caswell on December 27, 1969 and the couple made their home in Enid. Mo practiced nursing at St. Mary’s hospital from 1969-1977 and was highly regarded and respected in her field. Mo and George raised their three children, Amy, Molly and Grant and ran a successful business, Champlin Firearms. Mo was a charter member of the Oklahoma City Safari Club International Board and helped to found it and initiate its operations.
She volunteered extensively for the Grand National Quail Hunt and was an active member of Enid’s PEO Chapter Q.
Mo was larger than life in every way. She and George embarked on many adventures together, traveling extensively, including numerous hunting safaris in Africa. She fell in love with Africa and the African Bush. She loved being on the very edge of the Luangwa River in Zambia, a world-renowned wildlife haven. While is Spain, she hunted wild boar in the moonlight and rode on a string of horses into the high country of the Grados Mountains to hunt Ibex. She booked her own Caribou hunt in Alaska and enjoyed the excitement and vastness of the Alaskan bush. She loved the Caribbean, traveled to dozens of islands, and set up a Millennium cruise for January 1, 2000, with all the family and close friends through the Panama Canal. She loved her Quail Ranch Life in Shamrock, Texas for 20 plus years, diesel ranch trucks, cowboys and cowgirls and only listened to country music. Mo was friends of all the country neighbors, and they all respected her as a country girl with a spirit and a love for where she was at.
A polished lady who had a lot of grit, toughness, resolve and intestinal fortitude, she was a one-of-a-kind, generous, and outgoing person who was beloved by many, not only in her hometown of Enid, but also by her numerous friends throughout the world. Mo was known for her energetic spirit and vivacious wit. She loved to host parties, socialize, laugh, but most of all, she enjoyed connecting with people from all walks of life.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, George Caswell of Enid; her three children, Amy and her husband, Rob Roff of Edmond, Oklahoma; Molly and her husband, Rick Sodja of Paradise Valley, Arizona; and Grant Caswell of Scottsdale, Arizona; her granddaughter, Katie Sodja of Paradise Valley, Arizona; her sister Ruth Vigstol of Harlingen, Texas; her brother Richard Bangert of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; her sister Laura Kruger of Ashton, Iowa; nieces, nephews, relatives and many dear friends.
