ENID, OK - Cheri Ezzell was selected as the 2018 Pillar of the Plains Thursday night in downtown Enid. Ezzell is the Executive Director of the Community Development Support Association. She becomes the 16th Pillar of the Plains.

The other two 2018 honorees were Mayor Bill Shewey and Mike Wright, an Edward Jones financial adviser. Honorees were nominated by submissions from the public and then selected by previous winners of Pillars of the Plains.

The award was created to honor local residents that volunteer their time, talents and resources to improve the quality of life for the community in Enid and Northwest Oklahoma.

Ezzell thanked everyone by saying, "I want to thank all the people surrounding me all these years who have always been there for me when I asked for help, and I asked a lot of you for help.”

Ezzell helped create CDSA in the old Newman’s Department Store which is now The Non-Profit Center, a collaborative space for nonprofits. She has also served on the board of Enid Beautiful and helped make Dillingham Memorial Garden a public space.

Her other achievements include being a founding board member of Loaves & Fishes, a board member at Autry Technology Center, and a fundraising volunteer with 4RKids and Gaslight Theatre. She even served on the Enid City Commission from 1995 to 1997.

Mike Wright served as chair of the Enid Regional Development Alliance which he helped form, has chaired the Denny Price Family YMCA board and co-chaired the Save Vance Committee. He recently has worked with Forgotten Ministries on its Paradise Garden and was a founder of Westminster Presbyterian church.

Mayor Bill Shewey is currently serving his second term as mayor of Enid. He has served on the Vance Development Authority, ERDA, Cherokee Strip Community Foundation, CDSA, Enid Public School Foundation and the Enid Higher Education Council. Shewey was an original member of Leadership Greater Enid and was named 2018 Citizen of the Year by Greater Enid Chamber of Commerce.
